French Cor-Solo after L. J. Raoux (Paris, early 19th c.)

Raoux French Cor-Solo

Raoux French Cor-Solo

This early 19th century cor-solo is copied after an original made by Lucien-Joseph Raoux ca. 1800 - 1820. The original, which is in almost perfect condition and is a supurb playing instrument, is in the collection of Thomas Jöstlein, to whom I am very grateful for the opportunity to take measurements, make drawings, and spend a lot of time playing on the instrument.

The cor-solo has a fixed mouthpipe, and crooks that are inserted into the tuning slide in the middle of the body of the instrument. This model is limited to the crooks of G, F, E, E flat, and D at A=440 or 430, and is therefore best suited to solo and chamber music of the French repertoire of the early to mid- 19th century. The cor-solo was played by many of the well known soloists of the time, including Duvernoy, Dauprat, and Gallay.

Crooks for G, F, E, E flat, and D are included in the price of the cor-solo The instrument can be made in brass, or trimmed in sterling silver.
